I'm so excited over this finish! For a mistake, I think it turned out to be an awesome piece, even if I do say so myself! LOL!! I debated for a good couple of days on the framing of this one. At first I thought I was going to use black suede mats, a fillet and either the rusty red or the aqua for an under mat. However, while beautiful, it just wasn't really tripping my trigger. After trying a bazillion different options I pulled a frame off the wall that I can honestly say in 6 years I have never pulled off the wall before. Well, except for when I would pull it off and say, gosh, this is a pretty frame, why haven't we used this on something, and then back on the wall it would go. Now Mary Ann understands why it's so hard for me to weed out the frames. Ya just never know when you might have need of one! So as promised, I am going to display this piece on the shelf in the library.

I also have an update on my Chatelaine. I got to stitch on it both Monday night and Tuesday night while over at Margaret's house watching TV. This week was the season finale for The Closer, I sure am going to miss Brenda Lee Johnson and her gang.

Amy started school today. She was pretty excited to go and was in a fairly good mood when I picked her up.
As we were driving to school this morning, we went right past a 4 car accident. All kids from the High School. I of course had to point out to Amy that that right there was the reason I don't want her driving to school. Remarkably she had no response to that! On the way to school to pick her up this afternoon, I passed another more serious accident, again kids from the high school. Putting a high school right off a busy highway where the speed limit is 55 and most people go 65 was a very stupid idea IMO. Not that anyone is going to listen to me. What's done is done. I'll just listen to Amy complain for the next 9 months about how all her friends get to drive to school and she doesn't even have a car. Build a bridge daughter and get over it. I doubt if I change my mind no matter how much you complain. I much perfer listening to you bitch than to never hear your voice again.
Looks like we might be going to get a storm here soon. I better get off the computer and go take the umbrella down on the deck. Have a good night everyone! Thanks for stopping!

Have you seen this??
Coming to a cross stitch store near you, the cutest little Halloween hat you will ever see! When I received the email from John at Just Nan I said to Mary Ann, "we need to get this." Unfortunately, we weren't on the automatics for these particular items and they were all sold out already! I was completely bummed out but all hope was not lost. No siree. There are parts of the world where they don't celebrate Halloween you know and they have the right to say no to their automatic which they did. So we have 4 of these cuties headed our way!
I haven't had much time to stitch this past week. It's been a whirlwind trying to find clothes for Amy for school and senior pictures, getting the pictures taken, returning clothes we decided not to keep, and in between all that I still had to work, clean house, cook meals, go grocery shopping, and work on the basement. This is the last week for me to work at the frame shop. We stopped accepting new orders last Wednesday and at that time I had 11 pieces of needleart, 2 Egyptian papyrus pictures, 2 diplomas, 3 train pictures, 1 volleyball picture, 1 wheat weaving, and a couple of other items I can't remember off the top of my head. I still have 2 needlearts to stretch, 10 needleart pieces to mat if needed and frame, 1 diploma to frame, the mats are finished and the couple of other items to mat and frame yet this week. My pinning finger was smoking I tell ya! The current plan is, by Sept 1, the cross stitch part of the shop will be moved next door to the vacuum cleaner shop and Mary Ann and I will be working over there. The framing part of the shop is on hold until probably November at which time we will be either moving it into the current vacuum shop or be moving it all to a new as yet to be determined location. Dan (my hubby) suggested a new name for the store, he'd like it to be called Stitch and Suck. :) Mary Ann does not like his suggestion. I suppose I don't really blame her for that. Here's my problem though with all 3 things in one store. The Name. The name on the building should reflect what is in the store. Right? If it stays Cornhusker Vacuum, no one will know that there is cross stitch and framing available. And to be honest, Reflections Gallery doesn't do us any good either. So what name could we choose to reflect all 3???? I can't tell you the hours I have spent in the middle of the night pondering just that very thing. Not that I have any say in it, but it's just good business in my opinion. If any of you out there have a good suggestion, please feel free to throw it out there. I can't guarantee anything will come of it but who knows. Stranger things have happened!
In other stitchy news, I want to say hi to Sandy from Papillion. Sandy found our shop through my blog! This makes me very very happy. Hi Sandy!!
I also want to say Congratulations!! to Mary and Merrilyn, two of our stitching and framing customers and also 2 of the nicest ladies you ever want to meet. They entered a few things in the fair in Des Moines, Iowa and won some blue and red ribbons with their stitching. I wish I had pictures to show you all. The pieces that I framed were beautiful!! I'm sure the ones I didn't were just as beautiful. Good job ladies!
Adam is not moving to New Orleans so he signed a new lease on an apt. Dan and I went over to check it out this weekend. I do not know what that boy was thinking! It hasn't been updated since it was built in the early 70's. It's filthy and the closet doors are tin. We won't even talk about what the bathroom looked like. The upside is he is allowed to do what ever he wants as far as painting and changing doors, light fixtures, carpet etc. The downside? As far as we know he would have to pay for it!!!! In my 30 minutes of looking I made a quick list of everything that needs doing....a thorough cleaning, the carpet needs replacing or at the very least a good cleaning, the wood work needs refinishing or painting, the entire apt. needs to be painted, the bathroom needs to be updated completely, all the light fixtures need updating, those metal doors are beat to crap and need replacing also. Not sure what all will be done but we started with paint. The main areas are to be painted Sherwin Williams Latte with an accent wall in a deep rusty red. The bathroom vanity will be painted black, the walls a silvery gray to go with his black/gray/white shower curtain and I have yet to determine the colors for the bedroom and den. He's going to be painting for the next month at least!
Abby is off in Colorado. She went with Jake to a wedding. They rode the train which excited Abby a great deal. I haven't heard much from her, the wedding was lame, the train station was ghetto, she got dizzy up on the mountain and fell but not off the mountain so it's all good. The mountains are beautiful. That is the gist of what she has texted. Their return train leaves Denver tonight at 8 so I will hear more tomorrow I'm sure.
School starts for Amy on Wednesday although she has to go today for a National Honor Society meeting and tomorrow for journalism. She's starting to get excited. She has finished her summer homework, reading Beowulf and 2 science based books. I'm so glad I'm not in school. Summer homework would suck and Beowulf would put me right over the edge. Amy of course enjoyed it. She's weird that way. Loves books written in poem form.
I best get my rear in gear and get a move on. Since Amy needs to be at school by 9 I have to leave for work early. We have to share a car. She'll drop me off at work and go to school and hopefully someone will remember to come pick me up at 6 tonight. Last week they forgot me. Twice!
Have a great day everyone and thanks for stopping by and commenting!

Foggy Day and an update
Good Monday Morning! It's going to be a busy week around here. It's the last full week before school starts and we are scrambling to get last minute things done like dental appt's., shopping for senior pictures, hair appt. for senior pictures, senior pictures, school supply shopping, shopping for school clothes, etc. etc. etc....are you seeing the theme here? Yuk! I do not like this time of the year. Summer slips away so quickly these days. Guess that comes with getting older but I have to say, I don't like it. I don't like it at all!
Got up this morning to see this view outside:
I love to walk in the fog. Everything is so
muted and quiet. It's peaceful.
At least it is until you start looking a little closer.
Then you realize that the world is infested with
these:
Then you get creeped out and decide you are never going outside again. EVER! Because everywhere you look there is another one. The grass is covered in thick white webs with tunnels in them. And you know what's in the tunnels? S.P.I.D.E.R.S! And what is Julie terrified of? Yep, that's right. Spiders give me the heebie jeebies! And I know if I step into the grass, those spiders are going to attack. They're just sitting there patiently waiting before they pounce. But I've got their number. They aren't going to get me. I'm staying inside. Permanently!
Got some stitching done this weekend. Not a ton because I had to work on Saturday and then the in-laws were here the rest of the day. Sunday I worked on the basement, made some progress before I took Amy to the mall to find some school/senior portrait clothes. It's almost impossible to find clothes that look good on her body type. I was almost in tears. She was depressed and angry. It was not a good time. We found some things but not nearly enough and we still need a pretty red dress for the picture of her with her piano. I'm going to try to go out this afternoon again but I'm not sure we will have time. Anyway, here is my Chatelaine as of last night.
And with that I'm going to have to get moving. I need to pay bills before I take Amy to babysit and I head to work. I have a dentist appt. this afternoon that I'm not looking forward to. Then I'll try to shop a bit more before heading to a hair appt. for Amy this evening.
Have a great week if I don't get back to post again till the weekend! Thanks for stopping in!

Two finishes, dirty secrets and messages from God
I don't want to get into a whole religious debate here but, do you ever wonder if the things that are happening in your life are just coincidence or if it is actually the answer to a prayer and it's God's way of being subtle? I really wish he'd just send me a registered letter and spell it out for me instead of the constant is it or isn't it? I'm not that good at reading between the lines! That's all I'm going to say on the subject.
Mary Ann has done it again. She's finished another cross stitch picture and it turned out so stinking cute! I'm going to have to stitch this one for myself I think. Someday. When I get everything else done. Cuz I'm really not going to start anything else. Not until I am finished with one of the projects I already have going. I swear. Cross my heart and all that other stuff. Anyway, here is The Boys Are Back In Town by Just Another Button Company. Frame is by Zaps, I told him to make something that looked dirty and old and I think he did a good job! (click images to enlarge)
I've finished my Live, Love , Laugh by La D Da! Gotta decide on the framing next. If I mat it, it won't fit on the book shelves as easily as it would unmatted so I'm going to have to play some today and make a decision.

In other news.....my shack sold. Full price, which wasn't much but still more than I thought anyone would pay. I am shocked and heartbroken, even though I know that in the long run it's better for my financial situation. My sister was devastated also. I really wish I didn't have to sell it.
Abby is up in Minnesota...she comes home today though. I spoke with her last night. She tried water skiing and managed a whole whopping 5 seconds before going kersplat! She also said her asthma and allergies were really bad so I'm glad she is coming home. Although, by my reaction this year it won't be much better for her here. I'm not usually affected much by allergies but they hit yesterday like a ton of bricks! I swear, I needed to sneeze most of the day and just couldn't do it. I had that burning, itching in the nose and the watery eyes thing going on and for the life of me, I could not sneeze. So last night while cooking dinner, I have to confess that I snorted pepper. You can't get addicted just doing it once can you?? :) It certainly did the trick! I sneezed quite a few times and felt much better then!
Amy is busy entertaining her friend Katherine. I kind of feel bad for K. as Amy has to go to school Thursday for half the day to register and sell year books and all day on Friday. Katherine will go with her Thursday but has decided that all day on Friday is a bit much. She's going to stay here and watch the first season of Leverage on DVD.
Adam called yesterday. He had his interview for the New Orleans job. It is between him and one other person. If they offer it to him, and he takes it, he has to be there by this coming Monday. Yep, you read that correctly, Monday! As in August the 10th! I'm not sure what he will do. He just got his heart broken by the girl he is in love with and I am afraid he will make a rash decision because he isn't thinking clearly. He should know today.
Finally, I have mentioned a few times about the room in the basement we are working on. I wanted to show you the utter disaster my basement is at this time. Which wouldn't be too much of a problem except the Last Saturday Stitchers will be coming to my basement this month to stitch. This is a double edged sword. On the one hand, it gives my husband a time frame that he has to work in. There is no dragging this out another 13 years.....on the other hand it gives Dan a time frame and I am worried he won't make it. Or is it that I'm worried I won't make it. Once he's done with the construction and painting part then it's up to me to do the put it all away part. Let me show you what I mean. First, this is how my basement usually looks.

See that door way to the back in the second picture? That is the door to what used to be my craft /barbie room. Then when Dan started his prototype business, it became his work room. Which he totally destroyed. Everything in the room was covered with a very fine white powder, super glue or envirotex. Not once in 4 years did he clean up.
This is the room after we moved most of the stuff out of it and I did an initial cleaning.
See that white stuff on the floor of the closet? That's the powder that covered everything and that is after I swept once. It was stuck to the floor. Another view looking out towards the rest of the basement:
And this is what my basement looks like right now. Just a couple quick shots, there is more mess than even I am willing to show!

Most everything you see needs to be wiped down and cleaned before it can be put away. Some needs to be tossed and some needs to go to goodwill. It's a process. An overwhelming process. I do have a plan of attack in place now so I am hoping this weekend to put it into action and make some good progress. Because this is what the back room is starting to look like now:
New paint, new floor and finally after 13 years, moldings and doors on the closets! The far closet will house my barbie collection. Or most of it anyway. The other closet will house all the craft goodies. Fabric, buttons, sewing machines, cross stitch stuff etc....The nook without a door will have Dans stuff in it as will another nook you can't see in this picture. The nooks will be covered with curtains to look like perhaps there are windows in the room and to provide some much needed softness. The scrapping area that is currently in the other part of the basement will move into this room also.
Do you understand my panic about the stitchers coming? I'm glad they are because Dan needs that to keep him going and I am sure we'll have it looking purty by the end of the month but I'm still going to panic till that time!
Well, now you all know my dirty little secrets. I collect Barbies, or I did. Haven't bought one in about 5 years now. You know my basement is a disaster area and would probably be condemned if an inspector happened by. And you know I'm a closet pepper snorter!
And with that now floating out there in the ether, I will bid you a good day and go eat breakfast. Make it a good one and thanks for stopping in!!

Thank You Staci!!
Good Morning!
Yesterday, when I got home from a hard day of work, I found a package with my very own name on it waiting for me. I don't get packages very often so this was a momentous occasion! I planned to open it slowly and savor the experience, but like a kid at Christmas, I ripped that puppy right open and got straight to the good stuff! I won a give away last week from Staci at Snippets and Stash and I was pretty sure that inside that innocent looking padded manila envelope, I would find my goodies. I was right!! This is what Staci sent:
There are 5 different kinds of trim, a pretty piece of fabric, a pair of very sharp scissors and a little note from Staci thanking me for stopping by her blog. Like that's a hardship, I love reading her blog! When Staci told me that I had won the give away I shared with her that the little pair of scissors would be only my second pair of scissors used for stitching. I'm sadly behind in the collecting of scissors. I still need one more pair before I can officially call it a collection though. So, Thank You Staci! I love my gift and now I get the fun of deciding what to use it for! Decisions, decisions......

The rollercoaster, flowers, a finish and an update...
I have a friend, a fairly new friend but still a friend. I'll call her Deb cuz that's her name and I wouldn't know what else to call her. :) Deb was at Last Saturday Stitching this past weekend and she mentioned that she reads my blog. She also said, not exactly of course, cuz I'm old and can't remember exactly what she said but it was something to the effect that the titles of my posts catch her eye and depending on what the title is she always wonders whether it's good news or bad, should she read the post or not. So tonight when I sat down to write I was trying to think of a good title that would catch Deb's eye and make her wonder. So did I? Huh, huh, did I? Did I make you wonder Deb?? I hope so!
My red hibiscus bloomed this week. The buds are
so cool and alien looking and then the flower blooms
and it looks like this. Next year you all need to remind
me to put a tomato cage around these bad boys, the buds
are so large and heavy that the stalks are laying on the ground.
You are probably wondering what the roller coaster has
to do with the flowers. I'll tell you. Nothing. They have nothing to do with one another. I just wanted to share them with you.
Right now I feel like I am riding a roller coaster. When I came home from vacation and got back to the shop, Mary Ann informed me that they were not going to renew the lease and we would have to be out of the shop by Aug. 31st. This was a bit of a shock to me as I thought we had until the end of October. I was somewhat prepared for the end of October. I was not prepared for the end of August. Mary Ann was quick to explain this didn't necessarily mean we were closing permanently. Just re-organizing. They hope to find a less expensive building to rent or perhaps they would work out of their house. They have even considered moving in with the guy next door at the vacuum cleaner store. He's open to it. He's been wanting me to come work for him for months. The problem is....while I like him fine I don't think I can work for him. One minute I think I can and then he opens his mouth and says something and I just know I would kill him if I had to work for him. On the other hand, it's a job and I really need a job. But it's vacuums. There is nothing creative in selling vacuums. Especially the way he expects you to sell. On the other hand, if Mary Ann could move the framing and cross stitch into his shop I could still do the job I love. As long as vacuum cleaner guy wasn't there telling me to make sure I keep the 20.00 bills out of the 10.00 bill slot in the cash register. So depending on the hour or minute, I'm out of a job, I'm selling vacuums, I'm working out of M's house, or we are all in one place together....you get the idea. I'm up and down all day and all night and I don't like it. The ride is making me sick to my stomach. And I can only imagine how Mary Ann feels. Sometimes, I wish I had never found a job that I love so much. It's my dream job. It wouldn't be so painful if I hadn't had this job. But it's also one of the best things I have ever experienced in my life. It will be very hard to go back to serving lunch at the school or to learn how to sell vacuums. I was hoping you wouldn't mind saying a quick prayer for all of us. I'd appreciate it. Okay, Debbie Downer is now leaving the building!
I wanted to share with all of you a finish by Mary Ann. Less than a year ago, M. didn't stitch much. she
had stitched some in the past but not for quite a while. Since we started the stitching group and added the cross stitch supplies, M has been stitching almost constantly. I'm so proud of her! Last week she completed her first large project. Cirque de Carreaux by Ink Circles. I finished the framing of it today. I had a hard time finding a frame I liked to go with this piece. Nothing was exactly what I wanted. I came close with a dark blue frame but it still wasn't right. So we went out of the box on this one. I took a black frame and gave it a deep purple wash. I hadn't ever done that before. Even at wholesale, this frame was expensive and I didn't want to ruin it. I'm glad we took a chance because we both really like how it turned out. I'm not sure you will be able to tell in the picture though. The before looks more brown than it really is. The after looks a tad more purple than it really is.

And finally, an update on my Live, Love, Laugh piece. Almost done now. I just have the border to do and a couple of random black stitches.
And now my friends, it is past my bedtime and I am tired so I will bid you all a good night and a pleasant tomorrow! Thanks for stopping in and double thanks for leaving a comment so I know someone is reading my drivel!

Road Trip, Stash and a wip update
Don't ya just love spur of the moment road trips? Tuesday afternoon Mary Ann (my boss and friend) decided that we needed to take a break and have some fun. We have been somewhat frustrated with trying to get fabric in the shop. Seems everything we order is backordered! So she looks at me and says, why don't you give Picture This Plus (PTP) a call and see if they have enough stock on hand to make the 4 hour drive worth our while. I called Marilyn from PTP and she said come on down so Wednesday morning, Mary Ann and I hit the road for Abilene Kansas! We had such a good time! I have never been to Kansas. I don't get out of Nebraska much so this was a nice adventure for me! I thought there wouldn't be much to see, as I have always pictured Kansas as a flat and somewhat barren state, and maybe some of it is, but the parts we drove through were quite pretty! One town we went through called Marysville was very quaint and I would have enjoyed puttering around but we didn't have the time this trip. I saw quite a few beautiful things on our way down. This view for instance was gorgeous!
I'm a little confused though by the definition of creek. When I hear the word creek, I picture small little running bodies of water that you can almost jump over or at the very least wade across easily. Places where you catch minnows and things like that. That is the kind of creek I'm familiar with. That's the kind I played in as a child. This is the state of Kansas' idea of a creek.
Seriously. Are they kidding me?? That's a creek?? Looks more like a big ass river to me. And this wasn't the only one we saw. There were 2 of them. Then we'd come across what they call a river there and I'd be like that's a river? I can spit across it. That can't be a river. I think someone has been driving around and switching up the signs in Kansas. Deliberately. And with malice aforethought! Just trying to confuse this almost 50 year old woman. And it worked!
I also saw this cute, old, obviously not lived in anymore house. For some reason it called my name. So I had to take a picture of it. Do you know how hard it is to get decent pictures from a moving car? I'm surprised they turned out as good as they did!
We got into Abilene at about 11:30. The plan was to do our shopping and eat some lunch, get back in the car and head home so I could make my hair appointment at 6:30. I should have known better. I'd show you a picture of the outside of PTP but I was so excited to get inside I completely forgot to take one. It was like walking into heaven. Not only is there a cross stitch store, they have a book store too. And it was awesome! Hence the excitement. We got to meet both Marilyn and Sherry while we were there. Marilyn showed us the back room where the magic of dying the fabric occurs. Way cool! We got to see all the beautiful colors of fabric in person which I have to admit made me salivate. They have tons of stitched models to look at and all kinds of specialty thread too. Well worth the 4 hours in a car one way. We picked the ladies brains a bit and they were very happy to allow us to do so. We also got to see some upcoming secret things but my lips are sealed. I'm not saying a word. No siree.
Here is a picture I had to beg and ask pretty please to get. Neither Mary Ann or Marilyn wanted to have their picture taken but I bullied begged and batted my baby blues until they agreed, reluctantly but they did agree.
Did I mention they dye their own fabric here? Beautiful fabric. Lots of beautiful
fabric.
Sadly, my eyes were so much bigger than our pocket book. We still managed to come home with quite a few different colors, but I left twice this amount on the table. Mary Ann just kept saying, we can come back again Julie. I kept saying, I know that but I want it all now! (said with a definite whine in my voice) Our stash....
By the time I had whittled my wants down to a manageable pile it was already almost 1:30. We still had to eat lunch. Which we did, right there in the store as they have a cafe upstairs in the bookstore. Finally we had to pack up our purchases and head for home. Almost. Marilyn had suggested we stop at another shop in town. The name escapes me at the moment, I think it had the word creek in it, but it's a candle and decor store. Very nice place and I wish we had had more time to spend there. It was after 3:00 before we left town and I had no hope of making my appointment. See these gray hairs on the top of my head? Get used to them, they will be around a while longer now.
We motored on down the road and were making pretty good time until......
It was a loooong train. I think the engineer was a bit worried about my intentions when I took out my camera. I saw him watching me carefully. Like maybe I was pulling out a rifle or something. I waved at him and he eventually waved back. As a child I used to wait anxiously for the caboose to go by. As an adult, I wait for the graffiti go by.

Just 2 examples of the many many cars full of grafitti. I'd rather see a caboose.
One other sight we saw on our adventure was this:
Doesn't take much to entertain me does it? I suppose that is kind of pathetic if I stop to think about it but I prefer to take pleasure in the simple things. I'm not disappointed then. We got home about 7:30. Not bad but still a 12 hour day. I was tired. So I didn't do any stitching. But I still have progress to show you on my Live, Laugh, Love piece. See! Isn't it pretty? I'm still loving this piece.
Well, that's all folks. Thanks so much for going to Kansas with me! Can you imagine how long this would be if I went to Hawaii?? I don't even want to think about it!
Have a nice night everyone! See ya next time!
